O intenso aroma a Peat domina este uísque, o sabor inconfundivelmente iodado dão carácter. Ou se gosta ou se odeia não é bebida de consensos. Pessoalmente aprecio muito.

Laphroaig 10 Year Old is an all-malt Scotch Whisky from the remote island of Islay in the Western Isles of Scotland. Laphroaig, pronounced "La-froyg", is a Gaelic word meaning "the beautiful hollow by the broad bay".

In making Laphroaig, malted barley is dried over a peat fire. The smoke from this peat, found only on Islay, gives Laphroaig its particularly rich flavour.

Laphroaig is best savoured neat, or with a little cool water. Roll it around on your tongue. Release the pungent, earthy aroma of blue peat smoke, the sweet nuttiness of the barley, the delicate heathery perfume of Islay's streams. It is as unique as the island itself.


Crítica:

Old-fashioned sticking plaster, peat smoke and seaweed leap off the nose, followed by something a little sweeter and fruitier. Massive on the palate, with fish oil, salt and plankton, though the finish is surprisingly tight and increasingly drying. The biggest beast in the jungle, even if its roar has become more muted in recent years. ‘Love it or hate it,’ as one Laphroaig advert rather boldy put it, but you just can’t ignore it.

História: Ninguém sabe ao certo a verdadeira história da Laphroaig, que se foi perdendo no tempo.
É sabido que durante algum tempo havia destilação local mas devido ao seu caracter clandestino era um assunto do qual se evitava falar.
Por volta de 1800 os Johnstons já tinham uma quinta e sabe-se que por essa altura Charles e Willie Doig foram convidados a fazer alguns trabalhos numa destilaria ....a Laphroaig.

Tornou-se numa das destilarias de Islay mais misticas, caracterizada pelo "fumo" dos seus produtos (40ppm) que se distinguem a primeira abordagem.
